Questions

Rick Long from Lake Country (formerly Countryside South) spoke at WCBC today. His messages are always profound, yet refreshingly simple. He leaves me with a lot to chew on. Today's message was no exception. He simply had us consider a number of questions throughout the gospels (particularly John), that Jesus asked during his ministry--questions that had specific implications within their context, but that also have implications for us today.

John 1: "What are you seeking?"

John 6: "Do you take offense at this?" and "Do you want to go away as well?"

Matthew 16: "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" and "Who do you say that I am?"

John 13: "Do you understand what I have done to you?" and "Will you lay down your life for me?"

John 21: "Do you love me more than these?" and "What is it to you?"

Obviously, Rick was able to elaborate significantly on each question, and on the contextual responses, and, as always, he had wonderful insights and great application.

Maranatha!

Sounds good!! our message was on noah and the flood. It was pretty neat/informative.

How did the casserole turn out?? I was SO tired I did not make my lasagna...but potluck got canceled because only 3 families were staying and everyone either forgot or couldn't stay!

We went to subway with the Reeves, that was good fellowship. =)

I have my niece and nephew tonight.

Yes I remember literature and I was trying to recall what we learned regarding why we would NOT be in the tribulation. Are u saying that he's replacing the church with isreal? Cuz it really didn't sound like he was at all. Not sure if he's a dispensationalist or a covenant theologan though.

Without more info about your BIL and/or the conversation you had with him, I couldn't say what his eschatology is. Your comment at the end of your OD post hinted to me that he might be a mid- or post-trib.

(For other readers who might be clueless about this part of the conversation, Regan and I started it on her blog and sort of moved it over here! :D )

Hey, the casserole was a huge hit! I found I had a big jar of cheese with salsa (sort of a Cheeze Whiz product) in my cupboard, so I used that in place of the Velveeta. It was faster and less messy. The chicken was really good in it. You were right, I really did need 3 cans!

What did you do with all the meat you were frying up for the lasagne?

Say hi to the Reeves for me. I really miss Susanna!

So did I jog your memory from Lit class? Do you still have the dispensations study guide packet I started the class with before we dug into Chafer?

I pulled out my christian literature folder today and Gary and I have been looking at it.

My BIL is a pre-trib pre-wrather kind of guy. I didn' tsay t his in my blog but he t hinks th etribulation is starting THIS MONTH because of some calculation he's done. Gayr and Ithink he's on crack, but whatever! He does not replace the church and israel. He jus tthinks we'll go thorugh some of the trib...;hence the wrath stuff.

So if we go through some of the trib. wouldn't we also lose our salvation?? Because it seems as though many many people will bow down to this anti-christ. hmmm.. interesting.

I made lasagna last night, it was delish!Used the meat i fried up on saturday.

Tonight it's leftover cassorale mom eaches gave me cuz she thought we were coming over for lunch on sunday. Gary works at 2pm. I have two of james and pam's kids because we went to take them home and pam and josh (oldest) have the flu. Joel had it in th emiddle of the night, he is fine today, but we skipped preschool just in case. I didn't want him to puke all over at preschool! hehe.

Fun discussion! Those charts and stuff from christian lit. are awesome!!

P.S. What else do I add to the sour cream for the pork chops? I forgot! (after I've drained out the wateR)

That's pretty much it, unless you want to stir into the sour cream some of the leftover seasoning mix that you cooked the meat in.

I wouldn't mind refreshing my memory on some of those charts. Don't know how many or which ones I still have in my files!! I may find them useful again. So hang onto them until I see you again, please.

Hey - we took the kids down to the Orthodox Jewish synagogue for a field trip today. It was fascinating! The kids had great questions (and insight). The rabbi was very hospitable. His explanations of the basic tenets of the Jewish faith were very thorough, if not a little rambling. He really knew the OT Scriptures inside and out, and he was fairly well versed in Christian faith and practice. He was quite up-front, however, in his rejection of the New Testament and of Jesus as Messiah. Architecturally, the facility was very nice.

I was glad we went to the Orthodox synagogue, rather than the Conservative or Reformed ones so the kids could interact with folks who took their Judaism seriously enough to live it to the utmost. It will better remind the kids and us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for the salvation through Yeshua of God's people.

It also impressed upon Joel and me just how grateful and blessed we are no longer to be under the curse of the Law but under Grace by the finished work of Christ. All the more reason why the Tribulation has nothing to do with the church.

And, frankly, the pre-wrath concept is kind of silly when you think about it. The first half of the Tribulation is a time of relative, if not phony, peace provided by the anti-christ, a time when God has not yet poured out his judgment. If the point is to somehow test the mettle of the Christians or refine them for heaven, but they are raptured before the bulk of the judgment/wrath comes, what's the point? And if the point is that some of them may be enticed to turn away and accept the mark of the Beast, well, that begs the question -- were they ever Christians to begin with?

The Pretrib position is the only one that consistently makes common sense with the true message of grace, of God's sovereignty and glory, and of God's promises for both Israel and for the church.

I'm definately holding on to those charts! I've kept those for years!!!

Amen to your pretrib comments!

Sounds like a great "field trip". I certainly am thankful we are no longer under law but grace!! Check out my latest blog (I posted it on blogger and OD)
